Urology Associates has an active clinical research program with access to the latest "cutting-edge" research protocols through our affiliation with institutions such as the National Cancer Institute, Southwest Oncology Group and the Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group. In addition, many studies are available through the various companies that manufacture the newest of the drugs available for the treatment of both malignant and benign conditions.
Becky Hippensteel RN, BSN, MBA, CNOR, CASC — Becky brings a wealth of clinical and surgical knowledge to the research environment. She serves as the Clinical Research Coordinator for all of our studies and is intimately involved with the day to day contact with our research study patients.
Ronald P. Roper MD, MBA — Dr. Roper is the Director of Research for Urology Associates and brings his 25 years of clinical research experience to our program covering areas such as prostate cancer, bladder cancer, kidney cancer, erectile dysfunction, bladder dysfunction and benign prostate problems. He serves as the Principal Investigator for most of our studies and oversees the operation of our program. He is affiliated with the National Cancer Institute as a designated investigator.
Drs. Chun, Emerson, Kyburz, Schmidt, McCowan, Rutledge, Espy, Townsend, Symbas, Theiss, Mygatt and Dusseault all serve at various times as co-investigators on our various clinical trials.
Often, the question arises - "Why should I participate in a clinical trial?" or "Will I just be a guinea pig?" By participating in clinical trials, patients often have access to "breakthrough" treatments before they are released to the general public as well as helping to provide vital research statistics that have the potential for helping thousands of patients with their same problem. All patients involved in clinical trials are protected by a strict set of guidelines set out by the National Institute of Health and the Federal Drug Administration. Individual confidentiality is a primary concern and a priority of our program.
Please contact Dr. Roper to learn more about important research studies being conducted.
